Irkutsk

Früh morgens um 6.15 Uhr trafen wir am Bahnhof von Irkutsk ein. Mit dem Taxi gings direkt zum Hotel. Während wir auf unser Hotelzimmer warteten, spazierten wir durch die noch menschenleeren Strassen  von Irkutsk. Am Angara trafen wir auf einen freundlichen älteren Nachtmenschen, der uns spontan die lustigen Tiere im Fluss erklärte...leider aber auf russisch. Neben den gewohnt eindrücklichen Kirchen faszinierten uns die typisch sibirischen Holzhäuser, die teils in sehr gutem und andere in sehr schlechtem Zustand sind. Das geschäftige Treiben am Zentralmarkt verfolgten wir interessiert und kauften am Ende ein paar Handschuhe und eine Mütze. Morgen gehts weiter auf die Insel Olchon wo wir bei Nikita neun erholsame Tage verbringen werden. Bis bald...bei der nächsten Internettankstelle!

At 6.15 AM we arrived at the train station of Irkutsk, where we took a taxi to the hotel. Because we had to wait 3 hours for our room, we decided to go for a walk along Karl Marx street towards the Angara river. The city was empty and quiet at such an early hour. By the riverside we met a friendly, elderly Man, who explained us everything about the little animals swimming in the Angara river, the only catch to his explanations was that they were all in Russian. Besides the magnificent churches we were most impressed by the typical Siberian log houses with intricate wooden decorations. Some of these houses were in perfect shapes, others looked a bit more warn down. We followed the busy dealings at the central market interested and at the end had to get involved as well, which resulted in a pair of gloves and a cap.
Tomorrow we move on to Olkhon island, where we spend nine relaxing days at Nikitas place. We'll be back at the next opportunity to connect to the data gas station.
